This section of the AT begins at Tellico Gap and runs 8 miles roughly north to the crossing of the Nantahala River at the Nantahala Outdoor Center (on US Hwy 74). This is a great place to refuel, grab a meal, and buy any gear you might need at the outdoors store.<br />
Along the way the trail passes Wesser Bal Shelter and A. Rufus M shelter.<br />

From Franklin, take Wayah Road to the town of Kyle (just after you pass Lake Nantahala). Look for SR 1397 (aka Cold Spring Creek Rd.) on the right and follow to dead end at Burningtown Gap.
